We still don't have flying cars, but every day it seems like more and more sci-fi tech is getting defictionalized. The chainsaw bayonet, for instance, is a real thing, and while you won't be able to mount it on a real Lancer, you can strap it to your AK-47. You do have an AK-47, don't you? Ideally for use in the zombie apocalypse, the Doublestar Zombie X Chainsaw Rail Attachment is surprisingly quiet and runs on a stock-mounted battery rather than messy, flame-prone gasoline.

We still don’t have flying cars, but every day it seems like more and more sci-fi tech is getting defictionalized. The chainsaw bayonet, for instance, is a real thing, and while you won’t be able to mount it on a real Lancer, you can strap it to your AK-47. You do have an AK-47, don’t you? Ideally for use in the zombie apocalypse, the Doublestar Zombie X Chainsaw Rail Attachment is surprisingly quiet and runs on a stock-mounted battery rather than messy, flame-prone gasoline.

This particular model has a few other features as well, including a EOTech Zombie Stopper XPS2-Z Holographic Sight which gives you a biohazard sign instead of your normal crosshair; another zombie apocalypse must. Whether or not that electric chainsaw really packs a punch or whether it’s really just a glorified hedgetrimmer is anyone’s guess, and as of now, you’ll have a hard time finding out. Doublestar’s previous effort, the DSC Zombie Slayer, sold for $1,249.99 but the Zombie X, for the moment, isn’t for sale. You can bet that if it does go up though, it’s going to cost a pretty penny. Then again, your survival in the zombie-ridden wilderness of the end days is priceless.

For the record, I tend to adhere to the zombie-fighting strategies laid down by Max Brooks and eschew both automatic weapons and chainsaws. But come on. This thing is pretty sweet.

Made by Leo Firebrand of Firebrand Creations, this snub pistol is made almost entirely out of paper, with the exception of the LEDs, the paint, and a little bit of foam core support, which I’m sure we’re all willing to forgive. I, for one, hope he keeps up the good work, but goes back to making Fallout guns.

Doing his part to contribute to the trend is Nick Jenson, who built this huge, heavy, impressive LEGO version of the SRS 99 Anti-Matériel sniper rifle from Halo: Reach. Now, I always preferred the Battle Rifle (and not the DMR), but I can respect Nick's devotion to the sniper, devotion that yeilded this 10.5 pound, 63-inch long replica.

As far as I can tell, this build doesn't actually do anything, but it's pretty impressive as is. It just blows me away that people are actually able to find all the LEGOs they need to build these things. On the one hand, I'm glad this trend has seemed to stay with crazy-devoted do-it-yourself-ers, but on the other, I would buy a kit for the M-8 Avenger in a heartbeat.

There are a number of ways to spread the cremated remaihns of your loved ones, but one company had a vision for a unique way to honor the dearly departed. Holy Smoke, a newly incorporated organization, will take a small amount of the decedent’s (SAT word!) ashes and load them inside hollow-point bullets or shotgun shells.

Founded by Thad Holmes and Clem Parnell, former law enforcement officers and current game wardens, Holy Smoke passed a personal milestone this past September by completing their first two orders. Billing their service as not only the perfect memorial for a hunter or member of the armed services, Holy Smoke also stresses the low cost and low environmental impact of this method. This claim may be a little dubious considering the small amount of ashes used, the large amount of bullet involved, and the (occasional) dead animal. That’s not to say that hunting isn’t ecologically sound, just saying that any deer shot with your dead mother’s ashes was definitely impacted.

Currently, the company provides rifle, pistol, and shotgun ammunition through their website. I’m waiting for them to step up to artillery so I can follow in the footsteps of Hunter S. Thompson.

For some reason, a RadioShack in Hamilton, Montana thought it would make sense to offer a free gun with every Dish Network subscription, using the humorous and somewhat clever slogan pictured above. Even weirder than the pairing of the Dish Network and guns, is that the store's owner claims business has tripled since the promotion began in October. In order to qualify for the deal, customers sign up for the Dish Network, pay for installation and buy a specific amount of related equipment from the RadioShack, at which point, they receive a gift certificate for a local gun store and can choose between a Hi Point 380 pistol or a 20-gauge shotgun.

Don't worry, though, as the gun store runs all of the usual background checks, because -- as the RadioShack store manager puts it -- "we're not just giving guns to felons." The RadioShack manager claims it was difficult for them to get the Dish Network onboard with the free gun idea, as they've never had a gun promotion before (who would've guessed?) and were nervous about it.

Hilariously, if the customer either passes on the free gun offer or fails the background check, they can choose a $50 Pizza Hut gift card instead. The store manager claims that this promotion has been so successful, that they plan on running the same kind of deal next month with a DirecTV package.

Etsy vendor presstarttobegin makes and sells pixellated pistols like the one above, available in a host of colors.

This color version is to be henceforth known as “CMY-Killa”! This is because of the cyan, magenta, and yellow accent stripes that bedeck & bedazzle both sides of this dark gray/black gun. So there.

These pistols are cut from 3/4” thick poplar dowels, assembled with wood glue, primed, and painted with high quality acrylics. They are then sealed with a spray-on varnish to provide extra protection against accidental scratching.

This edition of guns measure 9 1/2” long, 6” tall, and 3/4” deep.

They don't fire bullets, mind you -- do you really think you could fire bullets from a gun that's a pixel thick? -- but you can at least play pretend and make chiptune noises, though you may not want to do this in public. The creator's pixel knife is pretty neat too.

Outside of Minnesota’s smallest town, he might have a problem using this in public, what with all the concerned people and law enforcement officials wrestling him down, but we think it’s morbidly funny. Creepier yet, he’s currently debating painting it black to make it look more real: “I get equally giddy and frightened by the panic that this could cause should someone not notice that the gun is a fake or should I accidentally take a call while at the bank.”

Well this puzzle to the right looks harmless enough. It’s an intricate, probably difficult-to-assemble 125 piece puzzle made with differently shaped blocks assembled from different kinds of metal. What a quaint conversation piece for the coffee table or fine gift for that young man down the street with a knack for puzzle-solving. The puzzle’s name? The Intimidator.

And that name isn’t just because it’s difficult. It turns out, The Intimidator could also be one hell of a TSA security problem if they’re not careful. It may not look like much, but first of all, it’s a block of metal. That’s probably going to hurt if you bash someone over the head with it, but that’s not the main area of concern here.

It turns out if you disassemble the puzzle, which requires a special key to take apart in the first place, about 20 of its pieces can be re-assembled to create this:

That is a single-shot .45 caliber handgun. A working one. One that can fire a bullet at gun-speed, like a real gun. Because it is a real gun. And that is a terrifying notion. It even has a laser sight. Below is a video of the disassembly/reassembly-as-a-gun process. The video is over seven minutes long, so it’s comforting to know that if someone were to try to do this on a plane, they’d probably get noticed.

Earlier this month, we featured a couple of steampunk inspired weapons crafted by the Colorado based artist Jonathan Alberico. Alberico now has two more devices to share, a shoulder-mounted hand-cranked lantern (pictured above), and a lightning gun, painted by Jamie Walborn. Both are available on eBay.

Videos after the jump.

The lightning gun, in a blow to aspiring mad scientists everywhere, does not actually shoot lightning. It does however, do a very good job of looking as though it is about to shoot lightning:

According to Alberico, 4 minutes of cranking gets you 1 minute of light from the lantern.
