In his continued attempts to control everything we love, today J.J. Abrams said he's in talks with Valve co-founder Gabe Newell about bringing Portal and Half-Life to the big screen. These talks are in the very early stages, and a lot can happen to derail the projects, but Abrams has said, "Both a Portal and Half-Life movie are things I want to see." Us too, Mr. Abrams. Us too.

Walking through the darkness of your bedroom, you suddenly a feel wet, slimy tendril wrap around your neck, lifting you off your feet toward the ceiling. Unfortunately, you don't have a gun on your person because you thought your bedroom was pretty safe, and instead of shooting your way free, you are pulled up toward the Barnacle and experience an unfortunate death on a ceiling. At least, that's how it'd be if this sweet Half-Life Barnacle lamp created by Daniel Ritthanondh wasn't just a sweet lamp, and was actually the bane of your walking-through-a-dark-hallway existence. You nostalgia, you lose: Redditor soxy found this vintage trailer for then-hot upcoming release Half-Life on a You Don't Know Jack Volume 3 CD-ROM from 1997. Awesomely, Redditor soxy was recently playing with a You Don't Know Jack Volume 3 CD-ROM from 1997. Anyway: It's somewhat amusing that the trailer touts a November 1997 release date when the game didn't actually come out until November 1998. From Valve's very first game, Valve time was a thing. But it was probably worth it, judging by the fact that in the interim, the game leapt from being the GoldenEye clone we see in the trailer to the groundbreaking FPS we remember it as today.

After beating around the bush with a mysterious ad campaign, gamemaker Valve has made a very exciting announcement for anyone who owns a Mac and plays games: Steam is coming to the Mac. Mac versions of the Steam service and Valve's entire library of games will become available in April.  Customers who have already bought games on Steam for the PC will be able to download the Mac version at no charge.  The first Valve game to have a simultaneous release in both operating systems will be Portal 2.

In what we can only hope is a break from cosplay, a headcrab-infected Half-Life zombie sips a soda while the heroic Gordon Freeman (Ph.D.) munches on a pretzel.
