Brand New Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Trailer

Previously, we’ve seen a theatrical trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows combining parts one and two of the final Harry Potter film; and now, an extended trailer for Part I.

LG Producing Color and Flexible e-Paper Displays

LG Display has submitted a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission indicating they’re going to start producing a 9.7 color e-paper display and a 19 inch flexible e-paper display.

Companies tend to pump out neat prototypes that get shown off at events like the Consumer Electronics Show, but this is one of the first times in recent memory that “futuristic” technology familiar from film, such as the newspaper in Minority Report, will actually be put into production (and by the end of the year!).

Harry Potter Condoms

Warner Brothers, the media behemoth that owns the rights to the Harry Potter movie franchise, is reportedly in the midst of fighting a legal battle against a Swiss company for copyright infringement. What did these neutral, chocolate-loving, particle-accelerating people do to earn their ire? Why, they simply created a line of condoms which prominently feature a cartoon likeness of Harry Potter.

Breaking: Emma Watson Cuts Hair

Emma Watson announced via Twitter that the rumors are true and that she recently got a very short haircut. We are writing about this firstly because we suspect that a decent chunk of our readership has had an unhealthy obsession with Emma Watson since they first saw her play Hermione in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone when she was like 10 years old that has only deepened with age; secondly, there is not all that much going on today.

Potter Puppet Pals Are Back After Year-Long Break

After a year-long hiatus, Neil Cicierega‘s Potter Puppet Pals series is back. Best known for the “Mysterious Ticking Noise” episode, of which Daniel Radcliffe himself is a fan, Potter Puppet Pals was one of the charter viral video series of the 2000s, beginning with two Newgrounds animations in ’03 and expanding into real-life puppetry in 2006, when it became one of the first videos we remember watching on a then-new video service called YouTube.

Cicierega hasn’t been slacking off since “Snape’s Diary,” the most recent Potter Puppet Pals episode, which aired in July of 2009 (and which managed to rack up an impressive 4 million-plus views): You may remember his delightfully insane BRODYQUEST video from last month, which features Adrian Brody “vibrating in harmony with the universe” as per usual. But with the revival of Potter Puppet Pals, he’s returning to his roots.

Harry Potter Horse Is All Dressed Up For the Hogwarts Express

I’m not saying that Daniel Radcliffe likes horses in that way. In fact, it’s a safe bet he doesn’t. But if hypothetically, the Harry Potter star had gotten any ideas while naked on stage with the horses in Equus, and he hypothetically acted on those ideas, then we could hypothetically end up, 11 months later, with this: An adorable wizarding horse with a lightning-bolt scar (which really doesn’t seem like it should be heritable).

The Blues Brothers and Other Cool Things the Vatican Endorsed

On the 30th anniversary of the 1980 musical comedy movie The Blues Brothers, The Vatican‘s official newspaper L’Osservatore Romano advised Catholics worldwide to watch the film. Developed from the two Saturday Night Live sketch characters played by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, the Blues Brothers embark on “a mission from God” in the movie, to save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up from foreclosure. So retroactively topical!

So it got us thinking, what other cool or geeky things have the Vatican been known to admit to liking? Hit the jump and find out.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter Now Open to the Public

Six years and an estimated $200 million later, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is now open to the general public, with gates having opened at 5:30am EDT today and long lines expected. The park is situated within Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventures theme park.

The crown jewel of the park is the Forbidden Journey ride, which J.K. Rowling and several Harry Potter cast members rode during promotional events for the park earlier this week; however, waits for the ride are expected to be up to five hours long this opening week. And there are only two other rides at the park:

New Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Trailer Debuts at MTV Movie Awards

In addition to showcasing many an F-bomb and allowing Tom Cruise to reprise his brilliant Lev Grossman character from Tropic Thunder, last night’s MTV Movie Awards brought to the world a brand-new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The trailer consists almost entirely of new footage unseen in the previously released sneak peek for the film, including a dash of Voldemort acting menacing and a healthy dose of Harry-Ron conflict, and feels altogether more like a ‘real’ trailer than the more all-over-the-place sneak peek which came enclosed as a bonus feature in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVDs.

Here’s the trailer:
