Inception

The Third Night Chronicles Movie is Basically Unbreakable 2

Hey, remember Devil? Its trailer ran when you went to see Inception and the whole theater laughed when the words “From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” flashed up on the screen.

Well, turns out it’s part of a three part series of horror films “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan.” And the third one is “what would have been the sequel [to 'Unbreakable'].”

X-Men Whore,” Ex-Lawyer, Gamer, and … Rapper? Adam WarRock Takes the Stage

In a time when Pharrell names his company after Star Trek, Soulja Boy equates having “swagger” with watching anime (we weep), and one of Hollywood’s primary cash cows is the comic industry, we can safely say that geek culture permeates our everyday media. Contrary to what Gil Scott-Heron believed, the revolution just may in fact be televised (not to mention blogged, Tweeted, and open sourced).

Only in such an era can we enjoy rap music from Eugene Ahn, a.k.a. Adam WarRock: comic geek, longtime gamer, ex-attorney, and now, emcee. His music name-drops everything from Inception to #donaldglover4spiderman, from the final Scott Pilgrim comic to Chicago Public Radio’s This American Life. Geekosystem recently chatted with Ahn about his career, the concept of being a “geek,” and rap music.

Inception Meets Magic: The Gathering: Duel Decks, Extractors Vs. Dreamers

I love Inception, and I also love playing Magic: the Gathering. If only there were some way to experience both of those wonderful things at once. Well, I made such a way. For those of you who aren’t aware of the recent Magic product lines, they have introduced a new gimmick called “Duel Decks” where two classic foes duke it out with an army of spells. Each deck is designed to reflect the magical style of its protagonist, species, or faction. So today, I am honored to present Duel Decks: Extractors Vs. Dreamers.

Below are two 40-card deck lists and the accompanying card images. Click any card to see it larger in better quality. Print them out or make proxies and let me know if the decks are actually at all balanced, or just throw a Mal Cobb card into your mono-black aggro deck and see if your friends notice. Enjoy!

Memes Within Memes Is Too Unstable: 15 Memes Inspired by Inception

A week-and-a-half later, Inception is still lingering in our minds, doing well at the box office, and, most importantly, inspiring people to make funny pictures on the Internet. That last point might seem insubstantial, but rest assured it isn’t.

By and large, image macro humor is created by geeks, and as such they’re a reliable gauge for which popular entertainment will endure, what actually makes us think and wins our obsession. Why do you think Inglourious Basterds birthed so many more memes than The Blind Side?

Below, 15 of the best memes inspired by Inception. No big spoilers, per se, but they may not make sense if you haven’t seen the movie. Also, be warned that there is some saucy language.

Inception Beats Salt: Still #1 Movie at the Box Office

Turns out the early speculation that Salt was likely to beat out Inception at the box office this past weekend was premature: Inception is still the #1 box office movie in America, with a box office of $43.5 million, bringing its U.S. total up to $143.6 million for its first ten days in theaters. Salt, for its part, didn’t do too shabbily, taking the #2 spot with #36.5 million.

Are box office horse races a little silly? Sure. But we at least understand the origins of this one:

Minimalistic Posters For Inception, Scarface, and The Big Lebowski You Can Own

Toronto-based graphic designer Ibraheem Youssef, who brought also brought us cinephiles the fan posters of Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, and The Life Aquatic, is now back with more simple, yet visually compelling prints of Inception, Scarface, and The Big Lebowski. We especially love how his imagery is always so symbolic and recognizable; take, for example, Donny and The Dude‘s sunglasses in the Coen Brothers’ cult film.
