For those who have been waiting since the debut of the iPhone to weaponize it, your time has come. Piexon, the makers of fine pepper spray related products, has developed the SmartGuard, a tube of mace attached to an iPhone case. The device’s creators reason that if everyone is carrying a smartphone these days, it makes perfect sense to attach a pressurized nozzle of irritant to it. That way, you’ll never leave home without your pepper spray.

Hey guys, did you hear about Apple’s fancy new mobile operating system, iOS ’86? The rumors flying around all the hottest tech blogs say the operating system sports up to three colors! We’re seriously living in the future. Designer Anton Repponen shows us what 1986 would’ve looked like if Apple focused all of their technical prowess on developing the iPhone, but didn’t save any resources to further software aesthetics. There are a lot of things Siri can’t do — understand anything anyone says if it is only slightly noisy in the background, for one. However, Siri not being able to post to Twitter, even if you speak very slowly and loudly and in a room void of noise, isn’t something that defines Siri anymore. It’s a workaround more than Siri actually being able to just post to Twitter itself, but the workaround is a quick setup and configuration, so those that really can’t be bothered to open up their Twitter app and type out a tweet now have a quick and easy way to tell the world what their sandwich is like in 140 characters or less.

In a twist very dissimilar from the old “PCs are for games, Macs are for art,” adage, a new study has found that Apple’s mobile phone juggernaut, the iPhone, is primarily used for games, where its competition, Android, is primarily used for apps. This is something Apple has not quite experienced before, and still doesn’t experience in the computer market, as Windows is still seen as the primary PC game platform, whereas Macs are still trying to play catch-up, even with the help of services like Steam that have filled the OS X gaming library.

When Apple debuted its redesigned PowerBooks way back in the day, it was rumored that Steve Jobs was embarrassed that the Apple logo on the laptop didn’t glow as it was depicted doing in promotional materials. After a later redesign which cast the PowerBook in aluminum, the logo glowed and has ever since. That hasn’t been the case with the iPhone, however. Instead of waiting for Apple to fix this oversight, you can take action by purchasing this handy-dandy glowing Apple logo mod kit!

Not content with simply cutting off Internet access to the entire country, the Syrian government has allegedly banned iPhone. The move comes after months of anti-government protests and a brutal response from the Syrian authority which have reportedly left thousands dead and put the country on the brink of civil war. The ban has been enacted presumably to prevent photos and video of government abuses from leaking out of the country, which has already banned foreign journalists.

Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S II is seen as the iPhone’s biggest competitor. So, instead of getting the edge over their rivals by showing everyone whatever unique features the Galaxy S II sports, Samsung decided to insult Apple consumers — not even Apple the company, but the people who buy their products — for the length of a commercial.
