J.J. Abrams is Bound to Confuse Star Trek and Star Wars [Video]

One of the issues that people have with J.J. Abrams on both Star Wars and Star Trek is the idea that he's going to end up confusing the two somehow. What, exactly, does that mean? It's hard to say, but Official Comedy's taken a stab at what they think must be going on with J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Wars.

The Honest Trailer of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Features Both Spork and Old Spork

I'm not much of a Star Trek guy, so I don't have much of an opinion about how the J.J. Abrams Star Trek universe compares to the previous (alternate?) ones. Screen Junkies sure has some opinions, though, and they made this Honest Trailer of Star Trek to give vent to a couple of them. They also made it because a bunch of fans were asking for it on Twitter. It's also pretty hilarious.

Watch The New Star Trek Into Darkness Right Here, Right Now

The first teaser and trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness were flashy and vague, doing little to actually show much about the movie besides that, yes, another Star Trek movie was coming, and isn't that exciting? The new trailer just dropped, and it gives a bit more detail about the upcoming Trek. Heck, there's even a Spock joke thrown in there for good measure.

Prepare for a whole new round of lens flare jokes, people, as things just got real. It was initially reported this past Thursday that J.J. Abrams would be directing Star Wars: Episode VII. This news was obviously met with more than a little suspicion, especially since Abrams himself had previously said he wouldn't be doing so. Well, turns out that wasn't as definitive as everyone thought. Per a press release from late last night, it's officially official: J.J. Abrams really will be directing Star Wars: Episode VII.

J.J. Abrams Reportedly Set to Direct Star Wars: Episode VII

What once began as a mere geeky flight of fancy appears to have become a reality now that various sources are reporting that J.J. Abrams has been given the prestigious honor of directing the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Although Abrams had initially said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he wouldn't take on the task of overseeing the cinematic future of George Lucas' influential science fiction epic, it looks as though the fan-favorite creative visionary isn't passing up the chance to guide the next chapter in the Star Wars mythology.

New Trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness is Just as Vague as the Teaser, But Longer

Hey, J.J. Abrams, can we sit and talk for a quick minute? Okay, look, we're not saying that we aren't brimming with excitement for the release of Star Trek Into Darkness -- our enthusiasm for the first film no doubt proves this. It's just that, and we say this not as a slight against your writing talents and mastery of the craft, you don't have a grasp of what separates a teaser from a trailer. The teaser? Perfection. The trailer, well, you just added another minute and did nothing to up the ante or give us an inkling of what the story is about. Are the tribbles at the center of all this? It's the tribbles, isn't it, J.J.?

LOST Makes More Sense as a Point-and-Click Adventure Game

Somewhere, in an alternate universe, J.J. Abrams doesn't make TV shows. He makes video games instead. There are definitely some things that our doplegangers are missing out on... (Zach Snyder tries to reboot Star Trek. Yikes.) It's not all bad, though: In the world where J.J. Abrams makes video games, then Lost obviously replaces The Secret of Monkey Island as the pinnacle of point-and-click adventure games.

NBC Does Something Right, Puts Entire Pilot for Revolution Online

Every so often, television studios like to prove that they're not entirely without merit. That's not to say that they're quick to embrace change, but they can eventually come around. Kind of like how Neptune eventually goes around the Sun. NBC has proven this by hosting the entire pilot of J.J. Abrams' newest television series, Revolution, online for everyone to view. They've even enabled the ability to embed the video, as you can see above. Given that the series is about a world without power, it's somewhat amusing that they've gone ahead and provided it to the medium that absolutely relies on a functioning grid.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot to Produce Sci-Fi Film About the Higgs Boson

Remember all that handwringing that went on around the time as CERN prepared to fire up the Large Hadron Collider? Some people were concerned that the enormous particle accelerator would destroy all life as we know it. Thankfully that turned out to not be the case, but it looks like someone thought it sounded like a dandy sci-fi flick.

    J. J. Abrams Really Likes Uncharted, So He Put Nolan North in Star Trek 2

You may not know it, but you like Nolan North. He provides his voice to basically everything nowadays, but most importantly, Uncharted's dashing, charming, incidentally genocidal hero, Nathan Drake. If you don't like Uncharted, he provides the voices for a bunch of the things you like from Portal 2 that aren't GLaDOS, and also voices the Prince from the 2008 Prince of Persia, and also Desmond from Assassin's Creed. I'll stop now. The point is, J. J. Abrams really digs Uncharted, so he put Nolan North in his upcoming Star Trek sequel.

Super 8 Trailer Arrives Via Tweet

News of director J.J. Abrams' Super 8 has been scant; there was something about aliens, maybe something about a government cover up, and no one was really sure where the titular film camera fit into the mix. That ended this morning when the trailer arrived in full blown glory, via Twitter. With nearly 2,000 followers on Twitter, the trailer is garnering a lot of attention. This is a move sure to inspire imitators in the cut-throat world of marketing, as Paramount just ensured that their trailer got written up all over the place. And the best part is that the trailer is actually quite intriguing, bringing classics like E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and even The Goonies to mind. It looks like we'll be in for a treat with the film, and if the trend of appealing directly to the film's audience continues, we'll likely be seeing more of it soon.

First Clip of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Sym-Bionic Titan

After a haitus of more than seven years, Genndy Tartakovsky is finally returning to the realm of television animated series with his new show, Sym-Bionic Titan. As Wired puts it:
Its sci-fi story of three aliens — plucky princess Ilana, her soldier protector Lance and their level-headed cyborg Octus — hiding out in Illinois from space mutants sounds like child's play. But once they attract intergalactic assassins to Earth, Sym-Bionic Titan instantly transforms into an adult-oriented intergalactic smackdown that levels everything from skyscrapers to military battalions in its action-packed path.
After Clone Wars and Samurai Jack, we can believe that these simple parts will add up to a mature and visually stunning masterpiece. Video, and a quote that will be of special interest to any fans of the puny samurai warrior, below.

10 Trailers Better Than the Actual Movie; Or, Why I Might Already Despise Inception

With only three days to go before the opening of Christopher Nolan's mindbender Inception -- its hype having escalated to unbearable, volcanic levels -- I can only feel ... disgruntled at the deluge of previews Warner Bros. still smashes into my eyeballs at every turn, whether on the computer at my office, or on a TV screen at home, or on a giant building as I attempt an innocuous stroll down the street. One of the more recent trailers, though admittedly awesome, pretty much introduced every major character.
