The Daily Show Open Makes Justin Bieber Cool

Obviously, your first thought is going to be “Ugh, come on. Really?” But hear me out: Justin Bieber made a pretty great appearance on The Daily Show last night, and he wasn’t even the scheduled guest. (That was Mike Mullen, who talked about the crisis in Egypt.) In a “Freaky Friday”-ish twist, Bieber and Jon Stewart switched bodies and apparently got into some off-screen hijinx. I promise: you might not like Justin Bieber after you watch this, but he will suck a lot less to you. You’ll give him this one. Trust me.

Geeky Signs from the Rally to Restore Sanity

This past weekend’s Rally to Restore Sanity/March to Keep Fear Alive may have had the highest geekiness quotient of any political rally in history, and as such, the signs people carried did not disappoint, with computing and geek culture references galore. Also, apparently some of the rally attendees were not fond of Sarah Palin/Glenn Beck/Fox News/etc.

We were planning on unveiling an ultra-comprehensive roundup of signs from the Jon Stewart- and Stephen Colbert-orchestrated rallies, but BuzzFeed did a bang-up job of that already; definitely check out their roundup of 100 (!) signs from the Rally to Restore Sanity and March to Keep Fear Alive. (Though if you’re conservative, prepare to be offended!)

Just a few of our favorite geeky signs below:

Revealed: The Schedule for Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity

Our pals at Mediaite have gotten ahold of the schedule for The Rally to Restore Sanity, Jon Stewart‘s much-anticipated rally in Washington, D.C. this coming weekend. (At least one Geekosystem editor will be there; please say hello.)

On the docket: Performances by The Roots and Sheryl Crow, the incredibly promising-sounding “Sanity and Fear Awards,” and mystery comedians and musical guests.

Previously: Stewart and Colbert describe what their respective rallies are all about.

Sane or Not: The Site for Sanity Rally Signs

Are you disappointed that there’s no way for you to make it to a certain Washington D.C. gathering? Maybe you’re going, but can’t think of any good slogans for a sign?

Maybe you’re bored and looking for something to occupy yourself for the rest of the day?

Well then you could do worse than to head over to Saneornot.com and submit and rank some signs. Who knows, maybe you’ll even see somebody with your submission?

Huffington Post Offering Free Bus Service To Jon Stewart’s “Rally To Restore Sanity” in DC

Last night, Arianna Huffington appeared on The Daily Show and made a rather dramatic offer right off the bat, pledge to provide bus service to anyone interested in attending Jon Stewart’s Rally To Restore Sanity from the Soho offices of Huffington Post.

HuffPost:

Stewart has described the event as “Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement.” As of Tuesday, a Facebook page dedicated to the rally shows that over 170,000 people have committed to attend.

Details of the HuffPost Sanity Bus are still in the works, but you can sign up [at HuffPost] to participate. As soon as we know more, we’ll alert you via email.

Jon Stewart / Stephen Colbert Rallies Confirmed for October 30th

Consider that announcement doubly announced: Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart will be holding competing rallies in Washington, D.C. on October 30th, “for the 70 to 80 percent of you out there who care about the issues but who also ‘have s–t to do.’”

Truthiness Restored? Colbert, Stewart Announce Big Plans For A Coming Announcement

In the days that followed Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally, a strange and fascinating movement started on Reddit. For a number of days, the most popular post on the social news and information service was an earnest and excited plea for Stephen Colbert to host his very own rally in the nation’s capital, in much the same fashion as Beck.

Last night, Colbert addressed this phenomenon on his show, and just like his lead-in Jon Stewart had announced in the prior time slot, Colbert made a rather startling announcement.

While the specifics of the announcements are still unclear, it appears that there may in fact be some sort of event in the works, though one can only imagine how that would work or what it would look like. But we can imagine…

Star Wars On Blu-Ray Announced, Deleted Scene Shown, Jon Stewart Awarded

If you think one of those things is not like the other, you’re about to be sorely disappointed. This weekend Orlando, Florida is host to the Star Wars Celebration V (we guess it’s the Empire Strikes Back themed one?), and the con has already been the source of news that will be debated for a while among fans.

Some of the news was a much more expected surprise, as yesterday when George Lucas announced that both Star Wars trilogies will be coming to Blu-Ray within the next year, and showed a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi.

Best Leak Ever: Jon Stewart Mocks Media’s Aloof Reaction To WikiLeaks Details

The persistently bewhiskered Jon Stewart took on the latest Wikileaks controversy, which has been labeled “one of the biggest leaks in US military history,” due to the release of tens of thousands of classified “military field reports” about the Afghan war. But while The Daily Show host mocked some absurdities surrounding the individual most responsible for the security breach, his greatest ire was saved for the dispassionate reporting of the story by the usual media pundits.

To be certain, there is no shortage of strange and unfathomable aspects to this story: from the online moniker of the source of the leaked documents (“Bradass87″), to the strange detail that many of the documents were carried on a CD-Rom disguised as a Lady Gaga Disc:

Olivia Munn “Tries Out” As Daily Show Correspondent

Whoa! The Daily Show has another female correspondent! And — whoa! It’s Olivia Munn! And — whoa! She was awesome.

Munn has the chops: her years on AOTS have shown that she’s far, far more than a ridiculously hot-bodied babe (though she certainly is that). She’s got great timing, fearlessness about subject matter and always brings a sense of fun. Last night, she more than held her own with her more experienced peers. Never mind bringing her own slavering horde of fanboys to the Daily Show demographic (in case they’re not there already). Expect this “try out” to become permanent very soon — if she decides she wants it.
