Mashup Puts Star Wars and Jurassic Park Together at Last

I seriously don't know what we'd do without YouTube-hosted pop culture mashups. We need them to help offset all the nefarious uses people have created with the Internet (malware, porn, etc.). So thank the stars we have videos like this one -- "Star Wars vs. Jurassic Park" (on the YouTube channel Slacktory) -- which combines two things that while awesome on their own, are also surprisingly awesome mashed together, sort of like a cinematic version of chocolate and peanut butter.

The Oldest Life on Earth Still Dominates at This German Cold Spring

Do you want to get a glimpse of the life that dominated Earth during prehistoric times without being menaced by hyper-intelligent raptors? A German cold spring with a unique environment can offer you a look back into our planet's past, to a time when simple life forms known as archaea made the rules. Granted, it's not exactly Jurassic Park.  You'll need a high powered microscope just to see these prehistoric creatures, and they're not exactly as exciting to watch as a triceratops. Then again, they're also not going to try to murder and eat you, proving once again that life is a series of compromises leading inexorably to bitter disappointment. As if there were any doubt.

New Study Charts DNA Degradation, Shows Jurassic Park Can Probably Never Happen

Your hopes of ever visiting a real-life Jurassic Park -- yes, we all still hold onto that dream, minus the rampaging dinosaurs part -- may have just been dashed upon the jagged cliffs of science fact. A team of researchers from Australia's Murdoch University released a study today suggesting that the very longest DNA could survive in a fossil intact is about 6.8 million years, meaning that giant lizards from the Cretaceous period are not viable candidates for cloning, no matter how sweet that would be.

Not only is this a picture of a Jurassic Park jeep transporting an oversized Weighted Companion Cube, but judging by the driver's knowing look, he is fully aware that he is driving a Jurassic Park jeep that is transporting an oversized Weighted Companion Cube. Wherever this man is going, it is better than wherever we end up today.

Even in the Mushroom Kingdom, Life Finds A Way

To solve, for ever and always, the severe confusion surrounding the genders of Super Mario Bros.' two egg laying dinosaur characters, can we just remind the class that all the dinosaurs on Jurassic Park are female? Except the ones that aren't. We expect your crossover fics on our desks by Monday. They should include at least one instance of Muldoon riding a velociraptor. (via Geeks are Sexy.)

There Will Be… D-Dinosaurs? In, Uh, Your Jurassic Park Comic?

To the joy of every fan who's still sort of hoping for a Jurassic Park IV (10 years ago I heard there was going to be a Velociraptor/motorcycle chase and have clung to the idea ever since) IDW Publishing has announced that they will have a new Jurassic Park based series starting up in June. The title is Jurassic Park: Redemption, and I can't decide if that's more awesome than it is hilarious, or more hilarious than it is awesome.
