Well, it's hard to call this good news for Nintendo: The storied game company announced late yesterday that it will not be putting on the standard "big goofy to-do" press conference at this year's E3 gaming showcase in Los Angeles.

There are many geeks who want to share their geeky passion with the next generation of nerds. Soon-to-be father Cole Bradburn and his friend Wes spent 3 months working on this hand-painted nursery featuring images from the Legend of Zelda games. This would be a truly amazing room for any Hero of Time to grow up in.

You know that back when you were playing The Legend of Zelda, you wondered, "What was really going on with Link? And Zelda? Was it ... like ... weird for them?" Obviously, John Hughes knew the teenage mind the best in the '80s and early '90s, so why wouldn't he have taken a crack at video game fan fiction? The central tenet of good game design is 'Don't make it tedious,' and on that score, the Water Temple from 1998's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was not a success. Last year, Ocarina director Eiji Aonuma personally apologized to gamers everywhere for the level, which required the player to put on and take off heavy boots a seemingly endless number of times to raise and lower water levels and flip lots of switches. "I am most sorry that it was not easy for you to put on and take off the heavy boots, that all the time you had to visit the inventory. I am very sorry about that. I should have made it much easier to switch to the heavy boots," he said in a 2009 interview. Now, Nintendo is correcting history: During a roundtable at E3, Aonuma said he felt "evil shame" over the design of the Water Temple, and vowed to make it better in the 3DS remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Did you hear that Nintendo is making a new Zelda game? Okay, so Nintendo will never be not making a new Zelda game, but... New Zelda game! You swing a sword! There's bombs! And arrows. And a clawshot. And a pony. What more do you want? Information? We got that.

Just before accepting his British Academy of Film and Television Arts Fellowship yesterday, Shigeru Miyamoto was caught mentioning everybody's favorite onion people by the Official Nintendo Magazine. From their Twitter:

ONM is at the BAFTAs! Miyamoto just told us Pikmin 3 development is "well under way".

Nintendo held its Q1 Media Summit on Wednesday, and, while it announced release dates for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M, it remained mum on one of its other beloved franchises: Legend of Zelda. In an interview with Cammie Dunaway, the executive vice president of Nintendo of America, Wired has managed to confirm that a new Legend of Zelda will be coming out this year, thus completing a powerful three sided something-or-other of gaming bliss. Hmm. There's something else Zelda-related that's triangular, isn't there? Arg. We just can't remember. Anyway, Wired's Chris Kholer admits that he owes somebody a steak dinner.
