Apparently not content to just go after Facebook, Google has announced plans to bring the image macro to Google+. Rolling out over the coming days, the service will allow users to add text over the top of their images like a veritable meme factory.
A stray cat longs to become a famous cat on the Internet in the hopes that it will lead to a warm home and a loving family. Of course, in this lovely silent animated short by Guy Collins, things go a bit off the rails and it’s unclear where fate will take this little cat. Where, indeed?
With all the variation that has sprung up around internet memes, there was bound to come a time when someone would finally organize them into one, easy-to-use chart. Now, the creation of deviantArt user OohLaLa423 doesn’t cover every possible permutation, nor every trend, but it is big. Really big. It’s also conveniently organized, showing the progression on the vertical axis, and when possible, grouping them by type.
From the country that brought you Top Gun scenes as Air Force footage, introducing, blatantly fake Chinese government Photoshop. Thats right, ladies and gentleman, this photograph is not authentic. When reading over a story about the inspection and construction of a new country road, somebody decided that the real photos weren’t pretty enough for the Chinese government homepage. As a result, this monstrosity got whipped up and posted on the first page. Boisterous laughter and a series of spoofs ensue. Check a few out after the jump.
No matter who the father figure is in your life may be, a Dad, an Uncle, a neighbor, a teacher, or a coach, we’ve all experienced the most cringe worthy “Dad” moment. It can happen inconspicuously or right in front of you, but there is just no hiding when he insists on telling that joke that only he finds hilarious, mostly because its at your expense. So with Father’s Day right around the corner, and a heavy dose of Dad’s humor headed your way, take comfort in the fact that your Dad probably isn’t as bad as Troll Dad. If he is, well, you can at least get some tips on how to improve your rage-face.
The fine art of planking, where people are photographed face down with stiffened arms and legs, has already swept out of Australia and taken the world by storm. Formally called “the laying down game,” it has encouraged people to produce surprising and surreal images that have entertained millions. This, our humble collection, chronicles what we regard as the finest plankers the Internet has to offer.
Of course, you’ll read on after the break. But we must caution that if you’re inspired to plank yourself, do so with caution; planking has already cost people their jobs and their lives.
This poor, innocent man has become the latest victim to the Internet’s insatiable need for PhotoShop-driven laughs. Caught in one of the sudden and brutal winter storms the man, now identified as Zach Burroughs, sought shelter for him and his frozen treat. Perhaps it was the apparent devotion to his ice cream or because he looked more like a time traveler from next summer, Burroughs has become the darling of Reddit and is the foci of many a meme mashup.
Burroughs remains lukewarm about his newfound popularity, but apparently even more blasé about the foodstuff that catapulted him to internet stardom. As he said to The Washington Post, who originally ran his picture:
“I don’t even like ice cream that much,” said Burroughs, an attorney who works on 15th Street NW.
The WaPo also has a meme post-mortem, giving us a peak behind the curtain of what makes an internet star. But more importantly is your fix of funny pictures.
For the uninitiated, or for those who are generally safe from Internet Happenings, Boxxy is a girl who posted rambly videos on the Internet a couple years ago and, due to the somewhat adorable, somewhat annoying, seemingly forced, over-exaggerrated personality she exudes, she became an Internet phenomenon, largely supported (going so far as being called their queen) and hated by Internet forum 4chan. Her supporters and detractors were so fervent in their beliefs that the situation between the two parties ended up crashing 4chan. In an odd move after becoming Internet-famous, she actually bowed out of the limelight, until a few months ago when she posted an auction of an InuYasha bag on eBay.
Since her eBay venture, all was quiet on the digital front–until now. On January 10, 2011, Boxxy posted the above video with a title that some may perceive to be a dire warning: “Things are about to get intense.”
Family Tech Support Guy seems to be fairly new; Know Your Meme states it was discovered only this month. It’s a little niche, but extremely relatable to those who understand the torture of being birthed in a modern generation by parents who weren’t.
Having originated from Rageguy, a popular meme that is generally used to express disappointment or anger, Forever Alone is a newer meme that is generally used to express loneliness. There are quite a bit of clever ones out there, and luckily for you, we’ve scoured the Internet for infinite loneliness and compiled it all into one tidy place.
Given beer's pervasive place in human history, it's not surprising that the geeky pastimes of drinkers would eventually rub off on the beers themselves. The result is a veritable cornucopia of nerdy beers, 14 of which are right here.
James Plafke
The halftime show taught me that football-watching men drinking beer who love seeing muscular men beat each other up really like to vogue.
