Serenity Now: Startup Will Send “FireFly” Spacecraft to Prospect Mineable Asteroids

Asteroids have been catching our attention a lot lately. Apophis was found to be larger and more dangerous than initially believed just in time for it to pass by Earth at 9.3 million miles. NASA has a potential plan to give the Moon its own moon by capturing an asteroid. The European Space Agency is sending up a pair of craft to test asteroid deflection methods. Now the startup Deep Space Industries plans to send "FireFly" spacecraft to explore near-earth asteroids to see if they can mine them for resources.

Watch the Entirety of the Firefly 10th Anniversary Panel [Video]

There really are no words to accurately sum up what Firefly has meant and still means to many, many people. But it's been 10 years since the show first dawned and the expanded universe continues still through comic. Out at San Diego Comic-Con, a large group of the folks from the show, like Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion, had an anniversary panel to celebrate the show and everything it encapsulates. Unfortunately, not everyone can go to conventions and even then not everyone can fit in the hall. But having someone record the entire length of it and then upload it is the next best thing.

Actually, Mark Wahlberg Might Not Ruin the Uncharted Movie After All

A while back, it was a very sad day. Mark Wahlberg took it upon himself to announce a few adaptation-murdering details regarding the Uncharted movie, which included himself cast as the lead of Nathan Drake, and the addition of Nathan's father and uncle, who haven't even made an appearance in the video game series (so far, not counting the theory that Sully, Nathan's older partner-in-crime, is related to Nathan in some way). Well, it turns out there's been a few developments regarding what once seemed to be concrete details, in that, thankfully, said details may not be so concrete, including a video of a fan personally petitioning David O. Russell, the film's director, to nix Mark Wahlberg in place of Nathan Fillion. Read on past the break for details that might make you feel a bit better about the fate of Nathan Drake's Hollywood appearance.

Mark Wahlberg to Star in Uncharted and How Hollywood Should’ve Done It

We knew Nathan Fillion barely had a chance to be cast as Nathan Drake in the upcoming film adaptation of the stellar Uncharted video game series, even more so when David O. Russell was said to be the writer and director due to his penchant for Mark Wahlberg movies. Well, over on MTV Multiplayer, Mark Wahlberg confirmed that he'll be playing Nathan Drake in the Uncharted film, showing that, once again, Hollywood doesn't know what it's doing regarding beloved video game franchises and obvious casting.

Rumor: Nathan Fillion in the Avengers Movie?!

In an article discussing the casting of Kevin Pennington as someone in the Avengers movie, Marvelous News' "insider source" had this to say about what characters Pennington couldn't be:

Nathan Fillion is pretty much locked to be Henry Pym, and should be announced before any other new additions to the cast (think around Comic Con).

Hubba-WAH?! Why isn't this the headline? Well, consider it fixed. Nathan Fillion might be in the Avengers movie that Joss Whedon is in negotiations to write and direct.

It doesn't happen too often that we want to go off to the corner and make fangirl noises, but this is one of those times.

Nathan Fillion and Jimmy Kimmel Talk Lightsabers, the Impossibility of Coolness

Earlier this week, Nathan Fillion -- a.k.a. Richard Castle, a.k.a. Captain Mal -- appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his show Castle, the season finale for which is airing on May 17th, and which made plenty of Fillion fans happy when it was recently renewed for a third season on ABC.

As with all good talk show interviews, the 'promotion' part was but a dim light in the background: Mostly, the interview consisted of Nathan Fillion telling geeky anecdotes. When Jimmy Kimmel chided Fillion for being possibly the only adult male who mail-ordered an extremely realistic toy lightsaber online (yes, there is a story behind this) who actually knows and interacts with women, Fillion -- who is a known cool person -- replied with his thoughts on the impossibility of attaining coolness:

Dr. Horrible In An 8-Bit Theater Near You

Have you ever wondered what Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog might look like on the NES? Well, at least one person has, and he made it himself. Doctor Octoroc, a digital artist and musician, has recently pretty much appropriated the entire first act of the Joss Whedon viral masterpiece into 8-bit RPG style reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda. Apropos, he's called it Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Game. Felicia Day, who played Penny in the movie, raved via her Twitter, calling it the "BEST THING EVER!"

PAX Attendees Implore Nathan Fillion on Twitter: Come to the Next PAX!

This afternoon, attendees at the first-ever East Coast Penny Arcade Expo, PAX East, united for one common purpose: urging Firefly and Castle star and Joss Whedon muse Nathan Fillion to attend the next PAX.

At the second Penny Arcade Q&A panel, someone asked Tycho -- who, along with Gabe, is one of the two driving forces behind the wildly popular webcomic (real names: Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins) -- to try to get Fillion to attend PAX Prime, which will take place in Seattle from September 3-5. The idea quickly caught on, and now, Twitter is blowing up with requests to @nathanfillion to attend either PAX Prime or next year's PAX East.
