Pedobear

More Law Enforcement Taking Pedobear “Threat” Seriously

In yet another instance of real-life law enforcement taking an internet joke way too seriously, a news report aired in Tulsa, Oklahoma that described internet joke Pedobear, a cartoon bear that is used to make fun of pedophiles, as a real life threat to children. The report is pretty damning, saying the person inside the Pedobear costume “may use candy to lure children closer, close enough to hug and touch your child,” followed by a mother, Kristin Weis, saying “They’re getting stimulated by that one touch. You don’t see it, we don’t know it cause they’re hidden under that costume, but that’s their sexual stimulation.”

California Police Issue Real Warning About Satirical Internet Creation Pedobear

In case you’ve been living in an Internet-free cave, Pedobear is a character made popular by the 4chan image forums that is frequently displayed or referenced when someone is being a little too weird about children on the Internet and basically amounts to one big Internet in-joke, in no way supportive of pedophilia. Despite this, California’s San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department issued a “public safety information bulletin” describing the dangers of Pedobear.

Seven Super-Geeky Parodies of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme Song

It’s said that 4chan, for all its horrors, is the Internet’s secret creative nerve center. 4chanarchive recently posted an epic thread from earlier this month that would seem to back that up: “Variations of Bel-Aire,” a machine-gun fire of parodies of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song. You can see the full thread here. (Warning: link NSFW.)

4chan being 4chan, a few are offensive, a few are less than inspired, and almost all are probably copypasta.  (It should be noted that when the Balloon Boy drama unfolded last October, there was a Fresh Prince parody within hours.) But a lot are great — and geeky. Taken together, they show the creative power harnessed by anonymous thousands with beastly levels of pop culture knowledge.

After the jump, seven of the geekiest Fresh Prince theme parodies, including Lord of the Rings, Pokémon, and Star Trek:

Bandai Launches Vaguely Pedobear-Like Computer

We try not to ride on Pedobear and suchlike memes too much, because: Let’s face it, memes cause cavities, and they’re often a stretch. (No, Holland does not actually look like Pedobear, unless you draw a giant bear on it.)

That said: if you are a computer manufacturer, you should probably not make a teddy bear-themed laptop with black circle eyes whose mascot has rounded ears and is just a goldtone away from a familiar brownish hue. Yes, teddy bears should just be innocent childhood figures, but the computer-teddy bear connection has been irreversibly tainted at this point. Blame 4chan.

Vancouver and More: 5 Times Pedobear has Infiltrated the Real World

Thanks to a lazy Google image search, a leading Polish newspaper erroneously claimed that infamous Internet meme Pedobear was one of the mascots of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. But that’s not the first time the pervy bear has fooled the gatekeepers of reality and made its way into the real world:
