Paul Giamatti Cast as Maverick Playboy in Season Four of Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey doesn't really need to get any better than it is now, but it's going to anyway. Paul Giamatti is joining the PBS Masterpiece masterpiece for the finale of its fourth season. He's unfortunately apparently only appearing in that one episode, but hopefully we can expect him to return for season five. So who is he playing?

Playboy Calls Your Bluff, Releases iPhone App With “Just The Articles”

The long-time excuse of husbands, boyfriends, and anyone else who subscribes to Playboy without wanting to admit they like looking at photos of naked women has been that they just read it for the articles. Well if that's the case, you're in luck, because Playboy's new iPhone app doesn't have any nudity at all.

Playboy Launches Hebrew Language Edition So Israelis Can Claim to Read for the Articles

This morning saw Playboy launch it's long-awaited (by some people, probably) Hebrew-language edition in Israel, allowing men around the world to pretend they're reading a Chuck Palahniuk story while they leaf through their favorite skin mag in yet another language. Truly, we live in an age of wonders.

Saturn Looks Downright Sexy in This New Cassini Image

A new image taken by NASA's Cassini spacecraft shows us that a little lighting goes a long way. The new picture of Saturn was taken in the planet's shadow, using the Sun as a back light for the solar system's third largest body. If NASA images were a Playboy magazine, this would be the centerfold. Turn-ons: Rings, moons, and hydrogen. Turn-offs: Short orbital periods, Pluto.

“Sonya Blade” Wants to fight for you… as an Illinois County Board Member!

If performer-politicians like former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and senator Al Franken have shown us anything, it's that having a certain amount of public notoriety doesn't hurt when you're running for public office. It's curious, then, to see that Kerri Hoskins Branson, a candidate running for a seat on the board in Kane county, Illinois, doesn't seem to be publicizing her fifteen minutes of fame. You may not recognize the name, but you may remember Ms. Branson for her roles as a cheerleader in the original NBA Jam and, more importantly, the motion capture/likeness for Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 3.

Jesus Graces Cover of Playboy Portugal [NSFW] (Update)

The July issue of Playboy's Portuguese edition features an unexpected figure on the cover: None other than Jesus Christ, who frolics with three different nude women within the pages of the magazine.

The shock value of the cover and concept is undeniable: Believe it or not, though, it's in the service of an ostensibly higher -- even literary -- purpose. Last month, Nobel literature laureate José Saramago died: A national hero in Portugal, he was the only Portuguese-language writer to win the Nobel literature prize.

Saramago was an atheist, and one of his most famous novels was titled The Gospel According to Jesus Christ (O Evangelho Segundo Jesus Cristo), depicting a flawed and human Jesus: You can see the book's title engraved into the headboard of the bed on the Playboy cover. Because that's where you're looking, right? It's in Saramago's honor that this religiously and literarily laden (and unsurprisingly, rather controversial) Jesus-with-naked-ladies photoshoot took place.

Apple’s Ban on Sexy iPhone Apps Gives Free Pass to SI Swimsuits and Playboy

After loads of speculation about Apple's sudden, sweeping ban of more than 5,000 sexually suggestive iPhone apps -- ranging from pornography to pictures of women in bikinis -- the company's head of worldwide product marketing, Philip W. Schiller, has explained where Apple is coming from. In an interview with the New York Times, Schiller says that complaints from "women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see" led Apple to institute its ban on sexually provocative iPhone apps. Why, then, did Apple give racy Playboy and Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue apps free passes, even as they shut down an app from a swimwear vendor that featured women wearing the bikinis they were trying to sell?

    Vintage Playboy Cartoons (SFW!?)

Comicrazys has curated a fantastic collection of cartoons from Gahan Wilson, Playboy's longtime cartoonist-in-chief. Wilson has been described as having a "genius for grotesquery," a trait which is certainly on display in the melted slug-people and splayed-out dead elephants in his cartoons:
