Software Fault Could Cause Automobile Cruise Control to Not Shut Off, Triggers Massive Recall

Auto manufacturer Jaguar has announced that a recently discovered software fault in their X-Type vehicles could cause the cruise control to remain engaged regardless of driver action. Braking or hitting the "cancel" button would have no effect in this scenario, and only turning off the car will shut down the cruise control. The company has issued a huge 17,678 car recall, but also stresses that the problem has as yet caused no crashes. The company said that all affected X-Type drivers have been informed. Once in the hands of Jaguar professionals, a simple software fix should solve the problem. So, if you're reading this post on your phone in an X-Type, you might want to pull over right now. You also might want to stop driving and reading blogs, though we're grateful that you'd be willing to risk your life for Geekosystem.

Sony Recalls Some Bravia TVs For Being Too Likely To Burst Into Flames

According to Bloomberg, Sony has issued a voluntary recall for about 1.6 million flatscreen televisions in the Bravia line because of a slight defect that makes them somewhat more likely to melt or catch fire than your average TV, but just slightly. Apparently, the recall was sparked by an incident in September when a Japanese owner discovered his Sony flatscreen started a small fire. Eleven such incidents have occurred in Japan since 2008. So far, no one has been hurt. The blame supposedly lies on a faulty backlighting component that can overheat and melt the top of the affected models. This isn't the first time that Sony has had to recall things for overheating. In hopes of remedying the situation, Sony is sending out inspectors to check out the TVs and replace the part if need be. If a replacement part is needed, Sony will offer TV rental during the repair, but they won't offer any replacement TVs or refunds.

Cookie Emergency: Girl Scouts Recall Lemon Chalet Crèmes

Responding to customers reporting an odd taste and smell to some boxes of Lemon Chalet Crèmes, Little Brownie Bakers has ordered a recall of a number of batches of the Girl Scout cookies. To which we responded: NOT THE LEMON ONES. From the Little Brownie press release:
We determined that while the cookies are safe for consumers to eat, they are not up to our quality standards. Certain lots of Lemon Chalet Crème cookies contain oils that may be breaking down which can result in an off taste and smell.
Girl Scout cookies are manufactured by two different licensed bakeries, and each regional Girl Scout council decides which to use, determining cookie availability for that area.  TRANSLATION: This might not even affect you.  Depending on where you live, Lemon Chalet Crèmes might not even be available.
