Waiting on the New Blizzard MMO? It’s Not Coming “Soon”

2010 has become a year of a comparatively tame Blizzcon, and it’s hard to blame Blizzard for it.

After all, last year they had World of Warcraft: Cataclysm to announce. This year, it’s coming out in a month. 2008′s Blizzcon was a showcase for the then-fairly-recently announced Diablo III, now the game is nearing fruition (for Blizzard, anyway). And StarCraft II is less than a year old, with its second installment not due until 2012.

And so, given the quietness on the western front, there was a low current of expectation that we might even see something about Blizzard’s fabled Questing Beast of the last three years: their mysterious unannounced new MMO.

Science Shows: Violent Video Games Make You Less Stressed and Depressed

Christopher J. Ferguson, associate professor at Texas A&M International University has completed a study on the effects of playing violent video games on 103 frustrated young adults.

The results suggest that violent games reduce depression and hostile feelings in players through mood management.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who plays the odd video game. They’re games. But, some people who play the odd video game know people who don’t. Perhaps they’d like something to link those people to?

Used Game Sales Are a Bigger Loss Than Piracy, Says Gamemaker

Andrew Oliver, co-founder of Blitz Games Studios, told Develop Online that piracy is not the biggest revenue loss facing the games industry today.

The bigger problem on consoles now is the trading in of games… I understand why players do this, games are expensive and after a few weeks of playing you’ve either beaten it, or got bored of it so trading it back in to help pay for the next seems sensible when people are short of cash.

Oliver said that the average used game is traded up to four times, which quarters the amount of profit going to the developer.
