The Hulk

Disney Is Actually Developing Three Marvel-based TV Shows

Last month fans jumped at the news that Disney and Marvel would be bringing two Marvel properties to the small screen, and one of them would be an Incredible Hulk show. There was, however, no official announcement from ABC television regarding Marvel’s statements. Well, now we’ve got it from an even higher source, Robert Iger, the CEO of the Walt Disney Company.

We’re developing three live-action series for ABC and ABC Family.

There’s no confirmation yet on which Marvel properties will be chosen for the TV treatment, but there are some indication of which ones are most likely.

Marvel and ABC Are Developing “The Hulk” for TV

What superhero had a beloved but campy television show in the 70′s, and then kinda fell off the non-comics radar until now, when a new show was announced to be in development?

Well, Wonder Woman.

And now the Hulk!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Hulk is a priority at Marvel‘s television division, which has been running along quietly since Jeph Loeb took charge.

You Won’t Like Bangladesh’s Hulk Knockoff When He’s Angry; Ever [Video]

Not since Who Killed Captain Alex? have we seen such lunacy in a foreign film or elsewhere. Bangladesh’s HALKa PAGLA is a film about … well, we have no idea actually. Like Who Killed Captain Alex?, it prominently features terrible CGI fire and a terrible CGI helicopter; it ups the ante, however, with a terrible CGI tank, which I decree all film studies classes that cover HALKa PAGLA shall call “the bendy tank,” sunglasses which glow with CGI electricity, and, of course, an Incredible Hulk who can only be described with the picture above. In short, the trailer will melt your mind, but the film would probably bore you.

Does Marvel Studios Alienate Actors?

Spinoff Online has a provocative article chronicling Marvel Studio‘s frequent clashes with its talent, not only asking whether this policy is intentional, but whether it will become a problem for the studio later on.

The most recent manifestation of this trend is of course the outright dismissal of Edward Norton from the cast of The Avengers, despite a performance as Bruce Banner that was motivated by a real personal love for the character. Other examples include Terrence Howard being replaced for Iron Man 2, and Samuel L. Jackson nearly walking from the same production over salary arguments.

Joaquin Phoenix the Next Hulk?

This past weekend, Marvel confirmed that Edward Norton was no longer their Hulk, and would not be reprising the role in The Avengers. However, Marvel quashed reports that they’d be bringing in a total unknown for the part, saying that they’d be casting a “name actor.” Could that name actor be Joaquin Phoenix, whose most high-profile recent role has to have been his bizarre Andy Kaufmanesque appearance on Letterman last year? Oh, and could Phoenix or whoever takes the part potentially star in another Hulk feature film?

Confirmed: Edward Norton Not In The Avengers

According to Hitfix‘s Marvel sources, the House That Stan Built is not going to ask Edward Norton to reprise his role as the Hulk for The Avengers, and will instead be casting an unknown in the role. This has confused many people who have been following Marvel’s ambitious project of injecting universe continuity into its movies, because, by all accounts, Norton was very interested in the role.

From Hitfix:

I sat down with Norton at SXSW this year, and one of the things we discussed was this exact scenario. At the time, he seemed to me to be interested in being part of “The Avengers” if the script and the director came together in an interesting way.

[Joss] Whedon‘s been meeting the cast, laying out his plans for the film, and so far everyone seems incredibly excited by what they’re hearing. One of the people who Whedon met with was Norton, and I’d love to know what they talked about. What I do know is that both Whedon and Norton reported their enthusiasm back to Marvel, and according to some calls I made today, it even sounds like Norton was making serious plans with his agency to keep his dates clear.

Marvel Appoints Jeph Loeb Vice President in Charge of Television

When Jeph Loeb appeared to no longer be taking up the writing reins on The Hulk, comics fans speculated wildly as to what he might be doing next. Perhaps the writer behind Long Halloween and Batman/Superman had even been poached back by DC.

Turns out it was actually something rather different: Loeb has been put in charge of television projects for Marvel Comics.
