Hollywood Won’t Let Actors Read Full Geek Movies Scripts for Fear of Leaks

Well-connected entertainment industry blog Deadline reports on an emerging trend in Hollywood which is meant to cut down on leaks, but which forces many actors to jump into movies they don’t know much about: Refusing to let actors read scripts for movies they’re auditioning for, instead giving them vague descriptions. The culprit? Geeks obsessed with picking apart leaked scripts from their favorite franchise films.

Marvel Does Not Want You to See This Leaked Thor Footage from Comic-Con

Last night, the five minutes of Thor footage that Marvel teased at Comic-Con leaked online. Marvel has been aggressive in its efforts to get the leak taken down, with many of the videos uploaded to third-party players last night broken and displaying copyright claim messages and with YouTube uploads of the footage disappearing as quickly as Whack-a-Moles. All of which is a little surprising — not just because this is the Internet, but because this footage will wipe away the doubts of many fans and make them genuinely excited about the film, which is scheduled for release on May 6, 2011.s

Nevertheless, io9 of the daring Gawker Media empire (you know, the people who own Gizmodo) is hosting the footage and by all appearances refusing to budge, and we’ve got their copy below.

The Comic-Con Exclusive Thor Poster

We’re not going to Comic-Con, and it stands to reason (probabilitywise) that you aren’t either. Well, here’s one of many things you’re missing out on: one of two Con exclusive posters of concept art for the upcoming Thor (above) and Captain America (below) movies.

Okay, so it’s just two pictures, and they’re not even big enough to be desktop images. But there’s more!

Asgard: It All Makes Sense Now

I have to admit that the shiny, metallic costumes of Odin and Loki, and the clean machine-worked stone of Asgard left me a little disappointed. Were these really the gods who inspired the Vikings to war? The same pantheon with trickster god who has three kids with a giant, two of whom are a serpent and a wolf? And also once turned into a mare, had sex with a stallion, and gave birth to an eight-legged foal that his dad rides around now? I guess I’m not a big devotee of technology-as-magic. But!

I have revised my position upon seeing this new shot, revealed today in the print edition of The LA Times (but not online, /shrug) and diligently scanned by Superhero Hype. I understand now.

New Comic Con NYC Puts Its Faith In the Thunder God

Wizard World, magazine publisher and host of numerous comic cons all around the nation, is launching the brand new Comic Con NYC, and its inaugural weekend is slated to coincide with the release date of Thor, May 6th, 2011.

This new con is not to be confused with Wizard’s other New York comic con, Big Apple Comic Con, which happens in the fall.  It is also not to be confused with New York Comic Con, which is run by a different company.  And don’t confuse it with San Diego Comic Con, because it’ll be a really long trip to correct that mistake.
