We’re still quite a while away from the next season of Doctor Who, but the BBC have given us a short trailer to satiate our appetites. It appears that to kick off season 7 (Americans here, so “season”) the Doctor will be back in America, and back under a Stetson, both of which are things to which we’re not opposed. There might be tumbleweeds blowing across a gun duel, but like, space and time tumble weeds.
Do you remember the MechWarrior games? Of course you do. They’re widely acknowledged — by me — to be some of the best video games ever made. That being said, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a fresh one. So here’s a treat, the first official gameplay trailer for MechWarrior Online, the Free-to-Play MechWarrior title due to launch later this year, bringing the PC franchise out of a 10 year slumber. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been salivating over developer blog posts and listening to wildly speculative podcasts for the past few months, but now there’s real gameplay and it looks delicious. Ready your PPCs, you lousy freebirths; a war is coming.
If the teaser trailer wasn’t enough for you, you’re in luck because an extended gameplay trailer for the HD rerelease of Jet Set Radio for XBLA and PSN is now upon us and it looks as terrific as ever. The cut together clips showcase all the best parts of the game (most of them) and feature an expertly edited version of “Rock It On.” Granted, Jet Set Radio had its issues but it is still a fantastically original game I find myself replaying frequently, and hopefully this renewed attention means that another sequel isn’t out of the question. I mean, can you imagine a Jet Set Radio soundtrack in a post-dubstep world? It might be the best thing ever, or the worst, but I’ll settle for it existing. Please?
Assassin’s Creed 3, first rumored and now confirmed to be set during the American Revolution, has its first official trailer and there is just as much tomahawk-to-face action as you would hope. Along with the Redcoat carnage, the trailer shows our Assassin Ratohnaké:ton (who is of Native American and English descent) racing through the snowy woodland, illustrating the potential of the series’ first foray into the forest. The game is slated for an October 30th release and promises, if nothing else, to give the Assassin’s Creed franchise a much needed change of scenery. Also: tomahawks.
As our sister site The Mary Sue pointed out, there are already some trailers for The Avengers floating around the real live world, but this new trailer does its best to convey some actual plot — something the previous trailers didn’t seem to care much about because explosions. Like with porn, caring about the characters having sex makes said sex all the better, and that notion applies here — caring about why there are explosions makes the explosions all the better.
If you had any doubts as to whether or not Mass Effect 3 could live up to its epic potential as a gut wrenching tale of the depressing, messy fight for — at best — a Pyrrhic victory against a foe so overwhelming as to be unbelievable, this trailer should clear things up for you. If you still have doubts, just watch it again. Of course, the trailer didn’t include any comedy, but I trust that won’t be absent from this game either. That is, unless, everyone funny bought the farm in your playthrough of Mass Effect 2. I’ll miss you, Mordin.
Back in February 2010, a video was taken of a 67-year-old white man, Thomas Bruso, getting into a fight with a black man on a bus due to what seemed to be an argument based on a racial misunderstanding. The 67-year-old man, after trying to avoid any kind of confrontation by moving to another seat on the other side of the bus, happened to be wearing a shirt that said, “I am a motherf**ker,” and despite his efforts to avoid the fight, got into one anyway. The man he was fighting with actually threw the first punch, but then surprisingly, Bruso quickly jumped out of his seat and subdued the man via a flurry of punches, earning the Internet title of “Epic Beard Man.” His shirt obviously helped garner the Internet’s attention. Now, it seems Danny Trejo will be in a movie entitled Bad Ass inspired by Bruso, trailer above.
The perpetually troubled Men in Black III finally has an official trailer. The story features Will Smith traveling back in time to save Tommy Lee Jones from, I don’t know, extinction? Unfortunately, that seems to mean that Tommy Lee Jones will not be in the movie as much as fans would like, as Will Smith deals with a younger Agent K, played by Josh Brolin. Either way, the trailer looks like your par-for-the-course Men in Black humor and Will Smith being charming. Hitting theaters May 25, 2012.
After much waiting, Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woodswill be making its way to theatre’s on April 13th. Quite frankly, I’m not a big Joss Whedon fan, nor had I ever heard of this movie prior to watching the above trailer, but I say this without a shred of compensation (hint hint) that it looks pretty great. What starts as a straight-forward slasher movie hook quickly changes into a bizarre barage of Sci-Fi and horror. Speaking optimistically, the movie looks to be a careful post-modern dissection of a slasher flick, complete with unseen powers stage-managing horror movie tropes from behind the scenes. Sort of like that dog from Silent Hill 2. You know the one.
Though we waited forever to get our hands on StarCraft II, and though we then learned that the game would be releasing in three parts instead of one whole part, and then we learned that the subsequent thirds would take a couple or so years each to release, we’re still pretty excited for those thirds. Even if we’re pissed that Blizzard is really bad at releasing anything having to do with StarCraft in a timely manner, but then we check out the newly released trailer for the second installment, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and then we’re even more annoyed that Blizzard is really bad at releasing anything having to do with StarCraft in a timely manner.
According to the accompanying text posted along with the video, the footage is rendered entirely within the game’s engine, which is impressive considering all of the non-gameplay, cinematic footage, which you can check out in big, pretty format after the jump, and join us in being mad at Blizzard for taking too long. Yes, any amount of time that the game isn’t released is too long.
