Wizarding World of Harry Potter Now Open to the Public

Six years and an estimated $200 million later, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is now open to the general public, with gates having opened at 5:30am EDT today and long lines expected. The park is situated within Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventures theme park.

The crown jewel of the park is the Forbidden Journey ride, which J.K. Rowling and several Harry Potter cast members rode during promotional events for the park earlier this week; however, waits for the ride are expected to be up to five hours long this opening week. And there are only two other rides at the park:

Wizarding World of Harry Potter: A Sneak Preview

We’ve seen the Super Bowl commercial and the nifty interactive website, but today brings us our first on-the-ground look at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Harry Potter theme park estimated to open on or around May 28th.

Cool shots of rides were notably absent on The Today Show special, but correspondent Kerry Sanders donned his Gryffindor scarf and gave viewers enough footage of the Hogwarts Express and various wizarding shops to sate them for a spell.

Harry Potter Theme Park Set To Open May 28th, 2010

Wondering when you might be able to start rounding up your muggles for a trip to the new Harry Potter Theme Park?  According to the Orlando Sentinel, Universal Orlando is now selling vacation packages for its highly anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction beginning as soon as May 28th of this year.

Harry Potter Theme Park: Coming Soon, Complete with Super Bowl Ad

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a (what else) Harry Potter-themed amusement park, is scheduled to open this spring, and they’ve been beefing up their promotional efforts lately.

They’ve recently expanded their preview website for the park, which now features a CGI flyover tour of the park and an interactive map of rides and destinations (including “The Dragon Challenge,” “Flight of the Hippogriff,” and the somewhat less thrilling “Owl Post Post Office”).

The biggie, though: an ad which is going to run during this Sunday’s Super Bowl:
