Your Consumer Electronics Are Filthy [Infographic]

Sure to terrify you into a downward spiral of constant cleaning and sanitizing is this infographic from the folks over at Keeping It Kleen. Their goal, it seems, is to so disgust you with information about the terrible, microscopic things lurking all over your consumer electronics is that you’ll start cleaning up the place a bit. However, if you’re simply interested in some surprising statistics, this infographic has that as well.

It says that a keyboard is 5x dirtier than a toilet seat, then it says that a keyboard is 60x dirtier than a toilet seat, which one is it?!

Gotta love the FUD shoved around. Things like ‘harmful bacteria’ would be a useful metric. Or how they define ‘poop’ on a cellphone… a number of studies just refer to fecal coliforms (PS- Your *toothbrush* has these growing on it after about a week in a holder on the bathroom sink!) as ‘poop’ rather than a smudge, or particles of effluence.
Same thing with the ’60 times more germs’… you can have ten pounds of apples (sponges, cats, pillows) on the floor, which no one would consider a problem, compared to ten pounds of feces. If you go by count alone, of COURSE you can pump the numbers to suit your example’s needs. This is all just a huge scare tactic, catering to the Antibiotic Mommies’ neuroses. I personally find it INSULTING more than ‘enlightening’, and entirely transparent in its ham-handed skewing of facts.
