The Four Players is a video series from Polaris and professional screenwriter Evan Daugherty featuring the characters from Mario Bros. like youāve never seen them before. Two episodes exploring Mario and Luigi’s personalities were released today, and two more featuring Princess Peach and Toad are coming tomorrow.
There are a few commenters on these videos complaining about a recent trend of everything being made darker and grittier. We don’t mind, because it’s the juxtaposition between the upbeat source material and the “gritty” new interpretation that’s fun. We also fully support gritty things being made light and silly. A lot. It’s maybe one of our favorite things.
It’s not that everything has to be gritty. It’s just fun to turn something into the opposite of its source material and see how it functions. Plus, these are pretty well made all-around. We can’t wait for the other two.
