The Incredibly Depressing Mega Millions Lottery Simulator

The Incredibly Depressing Mega Millions Lottery Simulator is Rob Cockerham‘s statistically faithful tool that lets you experience losing money on lottery tickets over and over from the comfort of your own home. Choose five numbers and a Mega Millions number and play the numbers 1 time, 104 times (twice a week for a year) or 1040 times (two times a week for ten years) at the pull of a dropdown and the click of a mouse; you’ll still lose!

Per the stats:

In the 5898629 times this simulation has run, players have won $41469.

And by won I mean they have won back $41469 of the $5898629 they spent (0%).

Ouch: Not exactly the best returns. Click here to try it out.

This has become an extremely good simulation of why people play: Now that someone has won, the calculator says that “people” have won back 103% of their total monies. If it’s at a loss for the lottery board, then it’s a win for somebody, and that somebody might be me!

Rob’s site is okay, but http://www.megamillionssimulator.com is much better (and more fun to play). It offers statistics, etc – and allows you to play 1000 tickets if you want.
