The BBC Has Revealed Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor Costume, Fangirl Squees Are Deafening

But what will his catch phrase be?! Please, oh please let it be "F*&%ity bye."

Capaldeyes

After months of anticipation (and promotional photos featuring Peter Capaldi in Matt Smith’s signature outfit), the BBC has finally released the very first image of the Twelfth Doctor’s official costume! Check out Capaldi as Twelve, rocking some amazing threads. Okay, well, some people hate it. But I love it.

CAPALDI

According to the BBC, Capaldi is wearing a dark blue Crombie coat with a red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt, and black Doc Martens. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of a thousand cosplayer’s sewing machines revving up.

The BBC also released statements from Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat (sigh) about the Doctor’s new look. Capaldi said,

“He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”

And from Moffat, we get,

“New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over — Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”

Here at Geekosystem, our opinions were a bit divided. Victoria thinks Capaldi looks like a crappy magician (though really, what is the Doctor if not a crappy magician?), wearing hammer pants with Tuxedo Mask’s coat; but, despite that, she still loves it. Dan is pretty sure his pants make Twelve look like an awkward jockey. Carolyn is entirely unimpressed; she thinks it looks like a cheap, bagged Hallowe’en costume titled “Love Doctor.”

Me? I’m just unintelligibly weeping in a puddle of Whovian excitement. Yeah, I think it’s sharp, and more than a little Pertwee, but who cares — this means the next season is really happening! And soon! Whovians — hooray!

Pertwee
