Vampire: The Masquerade MMORPG is Go

CCPGames, the makers of Eve Online, have announced their next MMO project, and it’s one that’s going to make a lot of my college buddies simultaneously very happy and very worried about their future productivity.  That’s because their next project, World of Darkness, is going to be set in the universe of White Wolf‘s table-top and live action role playing sensation Vampire: The Masquerade, and it’s going to “focus on player politics and social interaction.”

The teaser trailer (below) gives us no hints yet on whether the game will involve rock-paper-scissors.

Darkness was announced this weekend at the The Grand Masquerade, the Vampire con in, where else, New Orleans.  And don’t worry, my lovely LARPers, and everyone else who thinks that vampires are actually Machiavellian terrors, not high school students.  You’ve got until 2012 at least to get things accomplished before the game becomes available.

Too bad. I prefer the Requiem setting. However, something tells me they’re going to fuse the worlds a bit, based on that trailer. I suppose it makes sense. Appease the VtM grognards who want their metaplot and give diehard New World of Darkness fans better developed writing and tone (the old World of Darkness pretty much hops in between absurd, schmaltzy, and racist).

    Carry on, Susana, carry on.

Kinowolf really…. babe this is a game and you have the audacity to critisize other peoples choice of make believe. you’re rude, distrespectfull and just an all around ASS. learn some manners and grow up. oh and please let me make this very clear. you can reply with the nasties comment you like, however, i have far better things to do than check this site and you are far to pety and rediculous for me to care at all about what you have to say. you’re a joke and a jerk.

Did Kinowolf hurt you some time in the past…nothing he said was in any way hurtful or disrespectful.

All that aside, yes, this looks awesome, but I did rather hope if this happened it’d be Requiem.

If it happened in Requiem, I would not give this game another glance, just imagine how many are out there like myself.

I believe that Masquerade setting and clans are superior to Requiem. The fact that they are going back to this for the most part is proof that they are trying to involve their early fans that were turned off my Requiem’s character limitations.

The New World of Darkness has some sound game mechanics. However, Requiem is nowhere as good as the original. Notice, how sales of the 20th Anniversary Masquerade are leaving Requiem in the dust.

Appease the VTM kiddies and throw in something to dumb it down for the Requiem fan boys. No one likes to hear that crap. I’m excited. I really want a modern mmo that isn’t another world of warcraft. fantasy or now, City atmosphere, good graphics, I’m down.

The requiem the masquerade, splatter punk vs Goth societies that postulate the existence and the delirium of that immortal life and the amoral or immoral reproach upon its humanity. Truth be told I could care less, don’t mistake my apathy for swing vote in favor of either both generations of games have their advantages and disadvantages. But the drab dusty cobweb feel of the requiem is little more exciting than watching Renfield eat insects. So i guess like most ww fans I would actually prefer the angst life of a brujah in the wod atm, over the pretentious nature of the clans in vtr. I am an old player of Vampire in both sets and even indulged once in a game known as Nightlife, that was actually quite comical.
I would prefer the nature of old school torries to the absurd daevas and of course brujah to the all encompassed gangrel, I prefer the old insane Malk my favorite to any clan in the vtr, but you have it right vtr fans when you look at the mechanical nature of the game. Its feel was better allowing you to take those very real steps through the embrace.
Johnny felt his heart ever beating more slowly, the rhythm of the two hearts he could hear, echoing in his mind, coursing through his veins, the pounding at his temples was a reminder that the mortality he enjoyed so much was at an end. The beating became one the rhythm one heart beat, the light faded from Johnny’s eyes.
A light appeared to Johnny, then creatures of shadow grabbed at his feet pulling him downward into darkness into an abysmal hopelessness.  Eternal darkness was descending upon him and below the wretched cries of of souls with outstretched hands and bodys wreathed in flame writhing in agony. A voice came to him, “its your choice do you want to live”? “Yes!” he exclaimed. A warmth on his tongue the, taste somewhat metallic and the darkness was replaced by the soft light of a lamp and curly auburn hair, his head resting in the cleavage of her breasts. “Welcome to your new Life Johnny, its lucky I found you, your life would have been one of blindness and amputation, your excesses made you a diabetic. Lucky for you I have a sweet tooth”. Aislinn Grinned as she exited the penthouse leaving Johnny to recover, but the life of a junior senator turned Ventrue, was just in the planning stages of the Camarilla.

At first I was little disappointed when Masquerade was discontinued and replaced with Requiem. I love the Malkavians,Brujha and the Gangrel. I slowly grew to like Requiem and now prefer that world setting. I know like the Mekket. I have hoped for years a Requiem rpg would come out, I was going to make my Ideal Mekket charachter, Whose bloodline would be the Khabit.
