Google’s I/O developers conference goes live from San Francisco later this afternoon. If you want to know what the company has planned for the coming year — and let’s face it, you totally do, because whether you like it or hate it, it’s going to have a lot of impact — you’re going to want to be tuned in, and we’ve got you covered with the live stream starting at noon ET/9am PT today.
In addition to video, the stream above will keep you updated on announcements from Google, and considering I/O is the company’s biggest developer showcase of the year, you can expect plenty of those. While the hardcore nerds and Android junkies will probably want to stay tuned for the whole conference, most of you will likely find everything you’re looking for in this morning’s keynote, which is expected to touch on the latest updates to Google Maps and Google Plus, look into the future of Android, and announce a revamped music service the company hopes will help it to eat some of Spotify’s lunch. There’s some speculation that Google Play may be getting some love, too, with rumors surfacing about added multiplayer and social gaming arriving on the service. And maybe we’ll learn more about Google Babble, the coming unification of the Internet giant’s various chat platforms.
As far as hardware, expect some minor updates to the Nexus tablet, though most of the attention will no doubt center on the company’s plans for Google Glass, which we’d be disappointed not to see in action.
That said, Google has already tried to tamp down expectations, declaring that this year’s conference would be light on the product announcement side with more of an emphasis on the developers and their work. That’s a nice sentiment, but as much as we dig and respect developers, it indicates what promises to be a light year for the company as it focusses on the 2014 release of Google Glass and the next major Android update — Key Lime Pie — which signs indicate isn’t ready for primetime yet.
