Report: Windows 8 Public Beta Opens February
by Max Eddy | 2:06 pm, December 2nd, 2011
Thanks to a fairly steady stream of leaks, the public already has a fairly good idea of what is going to be baked into Windows 8, the forthcoming operating system from Microsoft. However, it was a mystery when users outside the company would be able to get their hands on it. A new report now claims that it could be sooner than you think, with a public beta possibly beginning early next year.
In a recent post, The Next Web cites unnamed sources at Microsoft claiming that the public beta for the OS could begin as early as February, 2012. Microsoft has been seeding limited developer versions of the software for some time, but the public beta is expected to be a much more finished product.
TNW goes on to say that a February beta could mean that the OS will be ready for sale around the holiday season next year. So if you’re planning on buying an expensive new PC now, you might want to budget for an OS upgrade in the near future.
