Smaller than the above picture, Dutch promotional product maker Deonet has created very small USB flash drive that holds up to 16 GB. The USB drive is so small, in fact, that the promotional information has to be put onto a tag that is separate of the actual drive, attached via a bit of string.
The drive measures 19.5 x 14.5 x 2.9 millimeters, and aside from the aforementioned 16 GB size, also comes in smaller (ha) 4 GB and 8 GB models. Deonet claims that once the USB drive is plugged into a computer, it is so small that one can just leave the stick in there without the potential for it to snag on anything, so that promotional tag that is attached probably helps a whole bunch. Alternatively, one can just leave the stick in the port forever, giving it a new home.
The drive uses a new kind of memory chip for USB sticks, called a Micro UDP chip, which smushes (technical term) the controller, flash IC, and everything else into a tiny chip that is less than half the size of the current, more common chips used in USB sticks.
Deonet has not yet revealed the pricing of the little guy, but it is slated to launch sometime in January, only a handful of days away.
