Someone Finally Fixed the Worst Tattoo in the World, Actually Made It Rather Stunning

As folks that browse the Internet on a regular basis, chances are you’ve seen what’s often called “the worst tattoo in the world.” It features a photo of a beautiful woman in a wedding dress with a big smile juxtaposed against a man’s arm that has what’s supposed to be a portrait tattoo of the woman. Well, let’s just say something went horribly awry, and the terrifying visage you see above was the result. Five years later, someone’s actually fixed the horrifying tattoo, and it actually looks really good.

On the one-year anniversary of his wife’s death, Chad Stahl went and got himself a tattoo. This was 2007. Unfortunately, he received a shamefully bad tattoo that what would eventually become an Internet meme. I’m sure inking a tattoo is a difficult job, but there are some results that are just unforgivable, and the one that graced Stahl’s arm is a fine example.

He’s had this monstrosity for for at least five years — six if he got it in January of 2007. Let that sink in a bit. The whole reason he got the tattoo was to celebrate the life of his wife, who died in a house fire and left him with three children, and this was the result. It boggles the mind. Luckily, he finally has a tattoo of his wife of which to be proud.

Stahl went to Empire Ink in Akron, Ohio and had tattoo artist Scott Versago fix the botched tattoo. After the recounting of Stahl’s story, Versago actually did the job for free. Well, free, but the publicity alone was probably worth the effort. Check out what Stahl ended up with after his session at Empire Ink:

Yeah. That’s… about a million times better. It’s a pretty uncanny resemblance to the woman in the photo. A happy ending for Stahl, and what’s sure to be a moderate increase in attention for Versago. This might just be the most uplifting story you read on the Internet this weekend.

what took him so long to get it fixed and why did he pay for the first one

  • 12voltman1

Not a big fan of Ink on anyone.
    But to each his own.

  • http://twitter.com/Agonzo1 anthonybgonzalez

the first tattoo actually wasn’t that far off, the guy just had bad application technique and artistry. That artist is probably way better at character/symbols than faces.

  • Fox Feelix

Didn’t he look at the stencil before letting the guy put that on his body? Was there NO stencil? That’s a no no. Always demand a stencil with the basics on it. No free hand, EVER.

What if this dude wanted to get married again, think his new wife will enjoy looking at the deceased one every time they are in the sack?

  • Anonymous

Tattoos are nasty and low-class but I can appreciate the skill. I imagine getting a face that looks like a photo would be the most challenging. Can you imagine just sketching that? Some can but if I were to it would be worse than the first tattoo. The first one is monochrome and the second color. I guess they even have white ink.

  • Anonymous

    What were his choices?

  • Anonymous

Holy cow – the first one was so bad, I didn’t think it was real when it first hit the interweb.

Personally, I remain ink free because I’m an independent thinker and don’t want to be one of the crowd. (which, ironically, is why everyone is geting them to begin with…..)

    .

  • von

if you were such an independent thinker, you would do whatever you wanted, regardless of what other people thought.

just as you claim, i am an independent thinker with no desire to follow the crowd. as of now, i have only one tattoo, which i deliberated for 12 years, and there will likely be more in the future.

my ink (both current and future) was designed by someone i love and is of deep personal significance; my first and only tattoo is on my left shoulderblade, meaning that i can either show it off or conceal it, as the situation calls for. i got it because i wanted it~ not to fit in or conform to anyone else’s wants. i could care less about what other people think.

    -

the original ink in the photo is awful; that being said, varago’s rendition is beautifully drawn… not my thing (i’d never dream of putting someone’s face on my body), but spectacularly rendered nonetheless. plus, it’s a great business arrangement~ the guy saves a bunch of money and gets his hideous ink fixed, the artist profits from the free publicity… everyone wins!

I don’t have to tattoo my body to prove anything to anybody I love, and wouldn’t want anyone to do the same for me.

    .

  • von

i don’t do it to prove anything, because i have nothing to prove. any ink on my body, present and future, is there because i want it to be.

  • love love love

it is beautiful and I wish the best for him and their children

  • gooched

So you appraise independent thought but ignorantly group everyone with tattoos as sheep…hmmm I’m not quite sure if you are aware of your contradiction or you are just naive, either way it’s a failed and misguided attempt to be unique (which ironically is what you accuse people with ink of doing)

  • Anonymous

    It’s still a tatto

  • eddie dowling

A reference source should be as strong as possible. The first issue here is the photograph itself. It’s really quite horrible, with a garish rictus-like grin and a poorly lit cock of the head. The unfortunate interpretation just made it that much worse.

  • http://twitter.com/moriya2k2 tyshunn felton

I don’t know, the first would be a more accurate portrait of what she looks right now.

I have no problem believing that someone called “repealobamacare” is an independent thinking with highly developed critical thinking skills. Also you used the word “ironically” incorrectly.

  • glennlimos

I think a lot of people dislike stuff other people like, they usually have the decency to just keep it to themselves or tell it when someone actually asks.

  • 12voltman1

    Gee, Well ExCuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Me!

I thought this was a open forum. A Place where people can express their thoughts and feelings.

  • 12voltman1

    Not have it at all.
    Now… Have it removed.

Good to know that the interweb spelling and grammar police are on duty here at geekosystem.

My online name screams independence. Anyone who thinks it is constitutional that the government mandate you purchase something for the condition of being alive is a sheeple.

    .

  • :)

*couldn’t* care less. “I could care less” means you actually care, independent thinker.

  • glennlimos

Says discussion on the top tab, log onto twitter or post on your facebook wall if you want to air out an opinion to the thousand of followers you have who care so deeply about it. A reason behind your opinion would also make the post more constructive.

  • 12voltman1

The Reason…. Makes me shake my head and wonder. Why would I want to look like a Low class loser?

Especially Woman. You know, “Screwed & Tatooed”

Repesents a bikie chick that’s been passed around.

You wanted to know my reasons .There you are. I have friends with Tatoos. I have friends who smoke. (they are dumb asses too BTW). I dont usually criticize or say anything. But here I am able to speak openly without malice toward none.

  • glennlimos

The “low class loser” stereotype is mostly gone, with tattoos being so mainstream as they are today you should also get out of that way of thinking about tattooed people. But as you describe your experience with tattoos are within your group of dumb friends, maybe you just need to get to know more tattooed people. Try looking where no “low class losers” frequent.

Most people I know that are tattooed are educated and not dumb, most of them did have the common sense to check out artists and use more time choosing a tattoo than most people use choosing a new mobile phone. But I do know those dumb ones that drop in anywhere and choose the tattoo after minutes of browsing an “art book”, but the problem was never with the tattoo, it’s just one of the many stupid life choices they made.

  • 12voltman1

Yeah, all the Scientist, Doctors and people with professional degrees are getting them.
    LOL

  • 12voltman1

Besides the Human body is beautiful on its own, Why destroy that beauty? If you into self mutilation. Go for it!

  • glennlimos

Not what I said, I said tattooed people come from all of societies ranks.

  • glennlimos

Some think it adds to the beauty, even though you think it destroys the beauty people luckily don’t care about your or some others persons opinion. A person is an idiot if s/he thinks s/he can get the approval of everyone.

  • Krepler

Actually, yes many of the worlds elite do have tattoos. Do you have a problem with piercings as well? You probably think it’s okay to puncture your ears but no more that the standard one in each ear or eyebrows. Your argument could go a long way, in which you’ll find how you’ve done it to yourself in some way.

Grow up or keep your opinions to yourself!

  • 12voltman1

No one says you have to like or Agree with what I post. I really don’t give a flying pigs ass,
But now that you mention it face piecings are not only ugly. They make me say to myself when I see someone with them. “Why do you hate yourself?”
Ears Ok, but one piercing in each for adults.
Not children who can not choose to make a desiosion for themselfs
Again If you want to look Rad and get tatoos ,ear piercings and purple hair. Wear a Freaking dog collar too “Spike”.

  • 12voltman1

Then why does it seem I struck a nerve with you?

  • glennlimos

You didn’t strike a nerve, I just started discussing out of boredom. If a person very close to me acted the way you do towards something I like, a nerve would probably be a little struck.

  • 12voltman1

    Okay. We Coo then?

  • glennlimos

Absolutely, I never considered us not Coo

    Voicing your
opinions in the manor that you are makes you out to be a low classed bigot. People
can have tattoos and still be good, nice, upper class, and educated people. But
in the end, you will still be a low-class bigot.

  • 12voltman1

It funny, Every Time I see that show “Lock up” almost all of the inmates will have tatoos.
    What does that tell you?

  • fuelpagan

That you make questionable television viewing choices and you like to make sweeping generalizations based on what you see on television. I can also tell you are not using Chrome with its automatic spell checker.

  • kiesman

I’m a Harvard Graduate, who teaches Jiu Jitsu at two schools. I have a Ying Yang tattoo on my left arm, representing balance in all things. I’m very fond of it. I’d also point out that in my graduating class at Harvard, many of the future Dr’s and Lawyers had a tattoo on them during school. You’d never know I have one because its under my suit, but yours is sadly a very ignorant and outdated view.

  • dal

Glenn was right, keep it to yourself or take it someplace else. This is a tattoo meant to memorialize somebody…it’s a shame but is seems your ego’s become so large it’s the only thing you see.
“White trash”? No, nobody is trash…even if sometimes their loud opinions are.

  • 12voltman1

Didn’t I see you on a episode of “Lockup”?

  • 12voltman1

Not bigoted. To each his own. I’m just telling you how a lot of people feel about people with ink. You could be a wonderful and kind person with a Tatoo. You could also have your pants hanging halfway down your ass. It wouldn’t make you a bad person. Just low class. Whatever. Go for it!!!

  • 12voltman1

Good for you! Enjoy it. I’ve traveled around a lot in this world.
To each his own. Outdated? Most people choose not to have a tatoo. Why do you think that is professor?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1631667413 James Walker

14% of people living in the USA have a tattoo, and 25% of Americans between the ages of 18-50 have at least one tattoo. It’s fairly safe to say, that tattooed people are moving in as older people are moving out, and that would indeed cause your opinion to be outdated.

  • 12voltman1

I’ll stay with the 86%. You make your own decision. I hope you don’t regret it later in life. I don’t agree with your position but I can still respect it.

  • Theresa Markham

yes, actually. that’s true. too bad you think it’s a joke, but I work at a medical school, I have tattoos, many of my peers have tattoos, and so do a majority of the people under 30 in my staff.

  • 12voltman1

Yes and I had hair down to the middle of my back when I was under 30 and so didn’t most of the people of my era. I cut my hair and so didn’t most of the people of my era. What will you do if you change your mind?

  • tattooedAlgorithmist

actually yes, I’m a scientist, and have them. Could you be any more bigoted and closed-minded?

  • 12voltman1

Cool, Do you aspire to Dennis Rodman? Amy Whitehouse (great talent though), Iron Mike, Pam Anderson. If I think of famous people with tatoos the only ones that come to mind are not my idols. IF you want to project some type of image go for it. Freaks in this world make it a more interesting life. I like freaks. But still most people probably have the same attitude toward this amusing subject but just don’t say it.

My rule is, never get a portrait tattoo. If you get a figure/human tattoo, make sure it looks like art or a drawing. Because that’s what tattoos are. Don’t try to emulate a photograph. That’s too difficult to pull off, and details are too intricate to age well.

  • Vig

    White ink… ouch…

  • Anonymous

Anyone who uses the word sheeple is a sheeple. Wait… damnit.

  • Brandon

I think tattoos typically are a bad choice; however, being human I have indeed myself made bad choices, not tattoos, but otherwise. Now judging a person with a tattoo, like 12voltman1 here does, is just WRONG. If you’ve never made a bad choice, feel free to judge people with tattoos. Otherwise, maybe you should examine just what other prejudices you have and ascertain if you are the person you want to be as you walk through life. The person who judges a book by its cover, or a person who truly gives people a chance prior to making a judgement.

My doctor has a sleeve he showed me when he noticed mine. Get with the times there are plenty of doctors and lawyers and people of all walks of life who have tattoos now. Nothing wrong with it.

  • mausium

You don’t know any “scientist”, MDs,or anyone with professional degrees.
